Digestible fibre is a slow releasing energy source; useful for excitable types, those in light work needing little extra energy and those that may be prone to problems where high starch concentrate feeds may be inappropriate. However, whilst forage may supply most of the energy and protein requirements, it is unlikely to provide your horse with adequate vitamins and minerals for optimum health and performance. BALANCED’ High Fibre Cubes provide an excellent specification of vitamins and minerals in a high fibre, low starch cube.
Good quality forage, both digestible and indigestible (roughage), should form the basis of all rations for any horse whether resting or in hard work. It not only keeps the digestive system healthy, but also satisfies the horses’ trickle feeding system and the psychological and physiological need to chew.
The elevated oil level in the High Fibre Cubes helps to promote the coat and skin, as well as providing a non-heating slow release energy. They are therefore ideally suited to horses that have restricted fibre intake caused by a number of reasons such as:
Hay/grass shortages where fibre levels need ‘topping up’
Haylage fed animals where up to 50% of the haylage content can be water not fibre
Restricted forage and feed intake due to problems of carrying too much weight or prone to laminitis
The cubes also provide vegetable protein sources and a broad spectrum mineral and vitamin supplement to provide a nutritious, palatable, non-heating cube.
BALANCED’ High Fibre Cubes are also useful for horses and ponies showing an intolerance to Barley.
